Entice visitors by offering fresh information. Consider my sister's site www.becometheboss.net. It is updated monthly as the next month's breakfast meeting details become available. If we did not update the site, visitors would get the impression that we no longer hold the breakfast meetings.
Engage visitors by allowing them to interact with the site. We chose Google's Friend Connect as our social networking platform as it allowed us to quickly plug-in social media features like member comments, polls and newsletters, into our site without spending a lot of time and resources to develop our own widgets.
Reward your visitors. This is the last piece of the puzzle we are missing. Since our web site is primarily for promoting our Breakfast With Fran Tarkenton monthly meetings, it is very difficult to provide visitors with rewards that are meaningful. In a way, there are many passive rewards throughout the site in the form of information. For instance the Government of Canada RSS Feeds page provides up to the minute information from Canada Revenue Agency Media Room and Harmonized sales tax for Ontario and British Columbia as well as up to the minute information from Canada Business (an arm of Industry Canada). The breakfast is used to promote our Pre-Paid Legal Care of Canada business as well as promoting the businesses of the participants. So we do reward our visitors and breakfast participants but in an indirect or subtle way.
